On his blog, Neil Gaiman responds to a fan about something other than his own life and work - he talks about G.R.R. Martin.
Let me preface what Gaiman writes about with a little background information. While i haven't read much Gaiman stuff (I've been wanting to get into the Sandman graphic novel series for awhile now), i HAVE read alot of G.R.R. Martin. He created the series A Song of Ice and Fire. If you don't already know this about me, then here it goes - I am a huge fantasy and sci-fi reader. I love it. People used to make fun of me for it (well, they still do), but i don't care. I'm happy that i've embraced this aspect of myself, and I will continue to enjoy books within that genre. However, I want to be clear that G.R.R. Martin is by no means my favorite writer - in fact, some of his writing i despise, and it often feels like i'm sneaking a peek at a 14-year-old boy's diary. But he does have moments of spectacular prose, and at this point i'm so far invested in his work that i will finish at least the Ice and Fire series. The problem is i can't - he's nowhere near done. And he hasn't released a book in awhile. That's his prerogative, but some fans are getting testy...which is just silly.
And that's what Gaiman is responding to - a fan who asks his opinion about G.R.R. Martin's procrastination. Enjoy.

i'm amazed by the seemingly simple things we still have to be reminded about. an author is sharing his/her work with you. enjoy it however you receive it. but as i was reading i found myself thinking, "if an author starts a series, they should try to finish it as soon as possible." i like gaiman's ending thought: get on with you life and hope the author is writing something amazing.
TV is waaaay easier reading.
